Pause for a moment and think about what a vendor might say to catch your attention if you were hurrying along the sidewalk, preoccupied with other thoughts. (If you always wear sneakers that don’t need a shoeshine, imagine that the vendor is selling pretzels or something else you occasionally buy.)
